April was a bit of a rollercoaster ride! It was going so well and we were planning an Easter trip to Washington DC and then on to a wedding in Philadelphia. I was damp mopping the floors two days before our departure when I discovered a section of our wood floor was warped. Looking up, the walls were buckling as well.
We filed an insurance claim that day. Turns out a section of roof had a build up of maple tree whirlies and a torrential rain early in the month caused water to go over the flashing and down into the house and all the way to the crawl space. We had to cancel our trip when we learned of the urgency to get the areas dried out. Sections of the floor and walls were torn out. Huge machines came in and ran for 4 days. The next week, the walls were repaired and last week they were painted. In May we will vacate the whole downstairs of the house for the floor repair and refinishing. Argh!
Other than that big stumbling block, I had an awesome April business-wise. Influenced by cherry blossoms and unfurling ferns, I made a new series in the 2017 Pantone Color of the Year, Greenery. I also made a few driftwood wall hangings with embroidered tropical leaves. I had Etsy orders and custom orders, I was interviewed in a blog called Embellished Talk, I participated in a Trunk Show at a local knitting shop, and I had some nice exposure on Instagram so that my following increased exponentially.
As April passes to May, I am working on a new series - it is copper and teal. I've been experimenting with covering part of a hoop in copper foil. I rather like the result and how the copper and teal play together. It's been fun adding blush tones and seeing what other colours work. It is always a lesson for me. Anyway, please stay posted for more copper and teal and where this may lead next
I hope you had a good April....... May, here we come!
